What actually happens

You arrive

Someone will say hello and hand you a bulletin. That's the extent of the fuss. If you'd rather not talk to anyone, walk straight through — nobody will chase you down, and there is no moment in the service where visitors are asked to identify themselves.

Music, about twenty minutes

A band of five or six. A mix of hymns rearranged and contemporary songs. Words on the screens. Stand or sit as you like — plenty of people do both, and nobody is counting.

Announcements and offering, about five minutes

We don't pass a plate. There are boxes by the doors and a giving page online. If you're visiting, please don't give — we mean that.

Teaching, about thirty minutes

Usually Pastor David Kim or Pastor Marcus Okafor, working through a book of the Bible a passage at a time. Bring a Bible if you have one; there are copies in the seat-backs and the text is on the screens either way.

Communion, first Sunday of the month

We serve communion at every Vespers and on the first Sunday morning of each month. The table is open to anyone who follows Jesus, regardless of where you're a member. Gluten-free bread is on the left-hand station. Children who haven't yet professed faith are welcome to come forward for a blessing.

What to wear

Whatever you own. On a normal Sunday you'll see jeans, work boots, sundresses, and one gentleman in a three-piece suit who has worn it every week since 2011.

How long

Seventy minutes for the morning Gathering, forty-five for Vespers. We start on time and end on time because people have lunch plans and toddlers.
